We had a really interesting talk from Angela Oswald about “The History of Boro” complete with slides. She described how it was originally used to mend, reinforce and thicken worn-out clothing with patches from discarded fabric sewn on in a decorative manner. She also showed us how modern designers were using it today. We all left wanting to have a try.

February 2022 meeting

Just to let you know about an alteration to the programme.

On 1st February the speaker will be Angela Oswald on The History of Boro.

Japanese Boro is a traditional art form which embraces up cycling and repurposing. Scraps used for patches and stitches used for repairs bring interest to the item and allows stitchers to express their creativity.

Put the date in your diary.

December Meeting

Today was our last meeting before Christmas. The weather was not kind to us today it was very stormy and fewer members came to the meeting. However, it was a very enjoyable meeting.

We exchanged homemade Christmas cards. We had a Show and Tell that was very surprising ! The work was so different and interesting this time. We had a monster outfit made by Jill and her Granddaughter. We had 3D vegetables made by Lyn Rochester. There was delicate black work by Judith Coyne . There were other lovely pieces of work also entries in the travelling books were really beautiful. We truly have some very talented members .

We enjoyed a festive tea with lots of goodies.

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
