Manchester

I've just spent a very enjoyable weekend in Manchester.

I visited the Whitworth Gallery and was pleasantly surprised how it had been expanded since I last visited. It was founded 120 years ago, as a resource to inspire the textile industry in north- west England and also to provide Manchester citizens with opportunities to learn about visual arts.

The Gallery's collections are eclectic. There really is something for everyone.

When I visited there were stunning examples of Heals fabrics from the 60's and 70's. There were Renaissance prints and pottery. There was a large Andy Warhol section. There were examples of Fine Art including intricate drawings from fine artists of today. There were film installations. There is a sculpture Gallery.

To top it all the new restaurant is fabulous.

Andy Warhol prints

 Heals fabrics.

Examples of iconic prints from the 1920s
        onwards.

I also paid a brief visit to the Costume Museum in Manchester. There was a super Mary Quant Exhibition with examples of her designs from the 60's and 70's.It is a small Museum but has some beautiful costumes from past centuries on display.

Sales table

Every month we have a sales table. Members donate any unwanted craft items and we collect the money for funds. This is working well as the money helps to pay the room rent and contributes to paying for extra speakers. So, if you're having a tidy up for Spring please bring those extra things you no longer need for us to sell.
At the end of the meeting if items are unsold please take them home as we have nowhere to store them.

Today's hands-on

We had a super afternoon making fabric postcards. There was a fantastic variety of approaches and styles.

Here are some of the works in progress. It would be lovely if you could bring along your finished postcards to the next meeting.
