Textile 21 Birkenhead

On the Edge of…

8th July – 9th September 2018

The position of the Williamson near the coast suggested the broad theme of the sea and the implications of living on an island. Against this background and through a collaborative installation, designed especially for the Williamson, the title “On the Edge Of...” has allowed Textile 21 to dig a little deeper and to examine both global themes and personal histories.
Entrance is free to the Williamson Art Gallery & Museum and the building is open to the public from Wednesday to Sunday from 10 am until 5pm. Read what the Williamson have to say about our exhibition HERE

Charity Day

Today a fair number of members battled extremely hot weather to produce some special bags for hospital patients undergoing cancer treatment.

Many thanks to Eileen who got up at the crack of dawn to turn her house into a production line. She kept us all going with refreshments. Judith made a yummy ginger cake to keep us going.

All in all a fun day. We all have friends and family who have had cancer so it is our small contribution to making their treatment more bearable.

A reminder about Suzette's work.

Jenny O' Leary talk

We were very inspired today by Jenny's talk and demo. She uses batik as her main technique but she has developed her own ways of working. The result is very unique work. She builds up many layers with wax, inks and paint. She often uses embroidery for embellishment.

Pin - cushions

Mary and Judith's lovely and very neatly sewn pin-cushions.
