Craft in the Bay

Yesterday I visited Cardiff. I visited The Craft in the Bay Gallery. It is run by The Makers Guild in Wales.
I was naturally drawn to the textile exhibits by well- known makers.

Ruth Harris uses machine stitch to illustrate her work. She is influenced by her Welsh heritage.

Harriet Chapman has designed these purses. She was inspired by antiques and collectibles.

Laura Thomas is an award winning artist using threads encapsulated in acrylic resin.

Alison Moger's use of traditional stitch and print with its narrative qualities.

Today's workshop

Today some of us were lucky enough to go to Margaret Horton's play day at the Two Doors Studio in Alsager.
Margaret taught us some really interesting techniques using cocoon strippings.
I think the results speak for themselves.

Suzette Smart Workshop

Suzette Smart did a workshop for us last year and as it was so popular we are hoping to repeat it if there are enough people interested.
It would be at 2 doors studio on Tues 19th June from 10am - 4pm. The cost would be £30 and Suzette is happy for people to hand stitch or use their machines.

Please can you let me know if you are interested in this. We will be collecting the money for it at the May meeting but it would be useful to get an idea of numbers.

Two Doors Studio

Two Doors Studio
Call for Art and Stallholders for our 2nd annual Textile Festival

Following our successful Textile Festival last year, we are running it again this year !  On the day we aim to provide the public an opportunity to view and purchase quality handcrafted textile based products.  A wide choice of local:  spinning, weaving, felted, up-cycled clothing, artwork, dyeing, wall hangings, embroidery, tapestry, 3D art etc. There will also be other events and activities such as hands on demonstrations.

Please also pass this information to other textile artists and local groups interested in textiles. They should get in touch with us directly if they are interested in any of the following.

Exhibition:  As well as our normal shop, the Studio and Back Room will be full of Textiles and Textile Art. For three weeks (up until 3rd June) we will be offering quality textiles to the public. Items left with usfor sale in the exhibition will be sold by us on our normal commission. If you are interested in selling items in the exhibition please contact us for more details by email or phone the shop. Please do not bring items to the shop as we can only accept work by prior arrangement. We will need artwork for the walls by 1st of May and artwork for exhibition by 8th of May.  For entries after those dates we cannot guarantee to present them in the exhibition.

Stallholders:  On Sunday the 20th of May we will have space for 10 individual stalls (6 upstairs in the Studio and 4 outside in our large marquee).  Stalls will be £20 for the 6 hour session 10 am to 4pm.

You may sell your own hand crafted items. Additional selected items may then be left with us for sale in the following  2 weeks if you wish and we can fit them in.  But you could pre enter items into the exhibition on their own too!

Please note:  Stalls can be individual or shared with other people, but you will only be allowed to sell items handcrafted by the stallholders or your team, no resale items allowed.

Textile Demonstrators: We also need  crafters to help us provide demonstrations (or other ideas!) both on the Sunday and during the following three week Exhibition. Have a chat with Lorna if you think you can help (and use it as a chance to publicise yourself if you wish).

To register an interest for any of the above - contact Lorna at Two Doors Studio:

Out and about in Mid Wales

There are some wonderful exhibitions at The Quilt Association, Minerva Arts Centre, Llanidloes.

The latest exhibition was called True Colours. It was the biennial exhibition of the local quilting group.

The standard of the quilts was very high. There were various themes covered including World War 1 and the 100th anniversary of the suffrage act.

Saturday was the last day of the exhibition.
