Hospice request

Hi everyone,

I know most of you have been very busy with Easter things lately, and we have had some fabulous items created to go on sale at reception, thank you so much for your contributions!
🐣

Our clinical areas are running a little low on their handmade items used for patients, especially the grief bears. Here is a reminder of the items that our clinical teams use. If anyone has any free time to work on some of these, it would be much appreciated.

  • Pairs of Bears (also known as grief bears) for IPU🧸🧸: two knitted (or crocheted, stitched or felted) bears, either matching or co-ordinating in colours. One of which has a hole in the back where a keepsake can be placed, and then the hole can be sewn up. Knitting pattern attached. Also things that aren’t bears in this same format are gratefully expected: hearts, cats, dogs, flowers…whatever you think someone might find comforting)

  • Pairs of Hearts for H@H ❤❤: A pair of knitted, crochet, felted or stitched hearts (no holes for these ones). I don’t have a pattern for this, but they should sit comfortably in your hand. If anyone who makes them already has a pattern, please may you send it to me and I will distribute it.

Those of you who have made them already might not realise how much of an impact they have, they are honestly so valued by our patients and families, and our nurses love being able to give them out. Please see a couple of quotes below showing how important these things are to those who are looked after by East Cheshire Hospice.

The most moving thing was the knitted hearts. They gave one to me and put one in my husband’s hand. He was buried with it. Mine sits beside my bed. It was a beautiful and thoughtful gesture

Bella, one of six grandchildren, was also given a Grief Bear knitted by Hospice volunteers.

Fliss said: "It was the little touches which made things easier. As a family we're lucky we're very close and losing mum has made us make the most of life."

Thank you so much for your continued support, if you have any friends that want to contribute too, the more the merrier!

If a few of you would like to sit and make them together, please do let me know and I’ll see if I can book the chapel for a little knit and natter πŸ˜Š

Kind Regards

Claire

Invitation to a Zoom workshop

Jayne Emerson is holding a Zoom workshop “Water Soluble Bowls and Fabrics” on Saturday 15th April, 10-2. Zoom opens at 9.45.

The booking form is on texgroup.org.uk  £20 for non-members

Water soluble fabric is such a magical ingredient, allowing you to create intricate weaves, lace and grids from scraps of fabric and tangles of threads. You can use it to create edgings, jewellery and sculptural vessels. You can make stitches float over textural surfaces, and best of all, it all looks so much more intricate and complicated than it really is!

Creative afternoon

We had a very creative time today with three tables of sewers being very industrious.

We also discussed finances and it was suggested we keep the yearly membership fee at £25 but put up the door money to £3 for members and £5 for nonmembers. Let us know if you are happy/unhappy with this.

The membership money is due at the May meeting.
