HeadWrappers 2nd May

See previous post for details. After a short talk by Karyn we will be tapping in to the creative skills of the group to make head wrappers and adornments for the charity. People need to bring their usual sewing kit, bits and bobs such as small quantities of yarn, ribbons, beads, buttons, material, felt, also crochet hooks and knitting needles if you have them and know how to use them.

See you all at the library for 2pm.

May Meeting 2nd May

The May meeting is shown on the programme as a hands-on event. We now have a speaker, Karyn Kersley who will be telling us all about HeadWrappers, a charity which provides scarves, hats and headbands for women who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment. Karen would like decorations or adornments such as crochet or fabric flowers that she can add to these to brighten them up. I am sure we will be able to provide some. She has sent me a couple of documents explaining what HeadWrappers are and what they do but I can’t get them to copy into this blog. If you want more information go to www.headwrappers.org

The meeting will be back in the usual location at the usual time: Alsager Library meeting room, 1.45 for a prompt 2pm start.

Jessica Grady workshop

Following on from her talk yesterday Jessica held a workshop so we could try out some of her techniques and draw inspiration from the items she recycles (elastic bands? really, medical tubes? yes)

Bellow are some of the results of playing with mixed media and textiles to create unique work.

Jessica Grady

Jessica is an award winning embroidery artist and textile designer and she recounted all her highs and lows over the years that led her to success. She brought an exciting display of her bold, colourful and intricate work that transforms recycled mixed media materials into embellishments to be stitched on to fabric.

April 4th Reminder

Just a reminder that the venue and time has changed for the April meeting. The talk will start around 10.30 am and will be in the United Reformed Church Hall , Brookhouse Road, ST7 2AP. (Ignore post code in original post as that was mine!) You can still park in the main free car park behind the library as it is not far to walk to the Hall.

The workshop will be in the same venue in the afternoon 1-4 pm. Remember to bring lunch if you are going to both though there are plenty of cafes in Alsager.
