Christine Stanford

Lovely meeting today with Christine Stanford giving a talk all about her work and how it developed. She also gave a demonstration of using a wax pot to create a surface on tea-bag paper that she could then work into. This is a technique she will be explaining more fully at her workshop on Saturday 27th April.

March talk by Marian Jazmik

Really interesting talk with lots of work on display. We were all amazed by the number of different elements Marian used in her pieces, including hair bands, bath scrunches, and almost anything from her husband’s garage. We were in awe at the unusual techniques she described, including an open flame. A very impressive talk.

March 5th Beyond the Surface with Marian Jazmik

Just a reminder about the March meeting on 5th

The talk by Marian Jazmik is entitled “Beyond the Surface” and her work can be seen on marianjazmik.co.uk.

Marian’s work is directly inspired by nature and she can often be found walking the country lanes, moors and round reservoirs with a camera. Her mixed media embroidery creates heavy textural effects with multi layers allowing her to reveal hidden stitches underneath.

Though starting with nature her more recent work has become more abstract.

This looks like being an interesting talk with lots of inspiration to take away with us.

April change of programme

The talk on the 2nd April has been changed to “A Stitch in Time” by Christine Stanford .

The workshop on 13th April has been cancelled.

On 27th April there will be a workshop “A Collection of Memories”  given be Christine Stanford

More details at the March meeting.

The February meeting will take place on 6th February at 2pm at Alsager Library. Suzette Smart will be giving her talk ‘ Textile Connections’ and will be bringing loads of examples of her work.

Work on the library lift is due to start at the end of January so the lift may be out of action. If you find the spiral stairs difficult there is another staircase at the back of the library. Ask for help if you are carrying a heavy or awkward load.

Slow stitched owl

Many thanks to Gail for providing the material and instructions for the owl. One of us must have been talking more than sewing, or perhaps I was just taking “slow stitching” too literally.
